Hammocks

Our family LOVES hammocks. When we stayed in this house 2 years ago, it didn’t have this beautiful deck. (Hugh built it) This hammock hung under the carport, I don’t think it’s ever been used as such, and this is where India took her naps. I’ll see if I can find one of those pictures.  

 

India has gotten really agile and uses this hammock chair as a twist swing. She has a pretty good time and it’s fun to watch how she runs and swings and holds on as she twists around.

 

 We’re hoping our first purchase in our new home will be a hammock, but I think we might need 2!

 

I'd like one like this!

Snail Party

One morning I went out to feed Gimpy after a full night of rain. 

There were huge African Snails crawling on the sidewalk.

 

 Then I saw some in the grass. The longer I looked the more I found. 

 

I can’t believe how their soft bodies can crawl on this sharp lava. 

 

Some were getting close to each other and others were just crawling over each other. 

 

There seemed to be a little party going on under this weed. 

I think I saw 20 snails that morning!

Hugh and Carrie's House

This is where we stayed 2 years ago when we 1^st came to The Big Island. My hair dresser had a friend leaving for CA for 3 weeks and needed someone to care for their dog and rabbit, exactly what I had ordered!!!!  Jonathan’s friend got us buddy passes on Hawaiian and India was free.  Anyway, we stayed here again between house sitting jobs and I thought you’d be interested to see it looks like.

Pig Tails

 

We’re starting to wear pig tails – 

 

I know, we’re about 2 years behind most little girls – 

we needed to get enough hair to hold the band. 

She’s wearing them longer and longer each day, pretty cute, huh?  

Melanie’s Dress

Jonathan’s friend from France brought this dress for India the last time she visited, India is finally big enough to wear it.

 

 

 

 

Good Bye to Penny

It was hard, but we left the chicks @ Melaree’s house. We really wanted to rescue them, but hopping between 3 homes before we land in our rental August 25 just seemed too much to handle. 

 

If I could get my hand on Penny, she would squat down, stick her wings out and freeze – then India and I would pet her.

 

 Jonathan left the chickens un-penned, so Lacy got to sleep in her tree, I took my drying rack and dog carrier, so I’m not sure where Penny roosted.

 

One of the homes lost their 4 chickens to stray dogs. I imagine on the patio furniture.

 

 Good luck to Melaree trying to catch and cage Lacy!!!!

Baby Clothes

Baby Outfit

 

I saved some of India’s clothes that I just couldn’t part with  for her to dress her little froggy in. 

 

This outfit was actually for Briana … the baby that I tried to adopt 10 years ago! 

 

 This was India’s favorite passtime in the 1^st house we were taking care of. 

 

Sometimes after her nap she would stay in her room and squeeze into one of these outfits.  Size 3 months!!!!

Container Garden

A curry plant from someone Jonathan met playing soccer.

Here is a Plumeria Tree Cutting; supposedly you just stick it in the ground and it grows! We'll see, they smell soooo yummy!

This is the new tomato that was left after India picked two and brought them to me.

 Every year I try to grow tomatoes. One year it was the horned worms, then the dogs ate them. Last year it was India and we'll see if this year if I have any tomatoes for my basil and mozzarella cheese!

 

Lime Basil! 

The guy at the Farmer's Market says to pop the flowers off and put them in your salad. This is the best tasting basil I've ever grown. They are so easy to grow and produce way more basil than I can ever use.

African Snails

 

I've always been a "critter girl" even though many people think I'm to "prissy" 

to have a pet salamander, hermit crab or toad (all of which I had in my classroom as a teacher).

 

I've always wanted India to have the opportunity to play with frogs and worms and...

African Snails!

 

We think these creatures are so amazing and unique! 

They're very peaceful to watch.

 

They're very patient and persistent, two wonderful qualities to emulate.

Private Dancer

 

India is in a class on Friday afternoons called "Keiki Movement Class."

Keiki means child in the Hawaiian language.  This is a very keiki friendly island.

 

I met a woman on Facebook through the Tuesday mommy group. 

She moved here from the SW and attended St. Cloud State, as did I, 

oh, she's also from Minnesota!

 

We feel like we know each other, even though we never met...

until I enrolled India in her 3 year old movement class.

 

India talked and talked about her "pink friend". 

Sunday wore a pink leotard at the first class and I found a used one at the studio for $5. 

Now India is a pink friend too!
